Our approach

E-mail Print PDF

We are working hard to ecomod commercially available off-the-shelf components to make a cutting edge diesel-electric hybrid power train.

The major component manufacturers are VW, Honda, and Integrated Fuel Technologies. We feel very strongly that, by focusing on efficiency and effective integration of components that were outstanding in their own right, we can achieve our goal without sacrificing performance.

We also firmly believe that ingenuity is alive and well worldwide. That's why we've included a "Technical Difficulties" category. This a place for fellow ecomodders to keep on eye on the project and offer improvements or suggestions to solve real technical problems encountered. What can RLR offer in return? Not much more than credit and a sense of accomplishment and the assurance that this project will remain open source for all of those who would like to follow in our footsteps. The goal isn't about making money. It's about having a blast learning how to use technology available in the market place while making a more responsible vehicle for the planet.

What kind of performance are we hoping to achieve? How does 0-60 mph in under 9 seconds sound? Top speed of over 100 mph? Lateral grip above 0.7g? All in a fun to drive package that will average at least 100 mpg. What is madness today may very well be commonplace tomorrow.

RLR will make a run to the world famous Bonneville salt flats during the 2009 World of Speed to shake the car down and see what a combination of the best in German, Japanese, and American engineering can do. We hope to see you there. The clock's ticking...
