What are your thoughts on Obama's move to give states more freedom in determining automobile standards? Good, bad, or indifferent?

Jake's input on emissions standards.

Here's one: Did you know that throughout Europe there are low emissions zones where vehicles are either banned or charged if they don't meet the posted standard(http://www.lowemissionzones.eu/what-are-lezs--othermenu-32 )?

The posted standards come from the European Union. US standards should come from the Federal Government. That way people who are out there laying the hammer down on top notch emissions control need to interpret a set of rules exactly once. Some of us don't have an entire legal department available to sift through a mountain of regulation from multiple sources to determine which items are common and which are exceptional.

Plus, what we don't need is a game of one-upmanship brought to us by a group of people who really don't understand what they're doing.
